Finding JOY Amidst The Misery

Let’s face reality. Life is tough. It’s crazy busy. You feel you barely have any time to do the things you love. The people you hang out with don’t seem like friends anymore. You isolate yourself, because it seems no one is talking to you or making effort to hang out. Keeping up with every responsibility just doesn’t seem worth the effort. You’re failing at things. Sleep isn’t in your schedule anymore. You bring yourself down, because you can’t ever be like “that girl” or “that guy.” Your life is an endless cycle keeping up with the game. And on top of it all, maybe something horrible has happened in your life. It’s overwhelming. You can’t bear it anymore. You ask yourself, is living worth it anymore?

Friends, you are not alone. There are many, many people who are experiencing what you are right now. Everyone goes through a time in their life of insecurity. A time where looks and what people think of you matter. A time where you don’t know who you really are anymore. You may feel completely broken. You may feel completely helpless. You may feel like there is nothing you can do about your situation or to change it.

But there’s hope. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” God will heal your broken heart. He will be near to you always. He will give you the strength you need to keep going. You don’t need to carry your burden any longer. The weight of guilt, shame, helplessness, hopelessness, and fear – drop them. Don’t hold on to them. Leave them at His feet. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Your life has meaning. You were created and put here on this earth for a reason. Though it feels like there is no one who loves you or cares about you, there is. His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus is a person. But he’s also God’s son. He’s Perfect. Holy. Sinless. Jesus is love. He’s life. He’s not just a figure. He’s real. And He’s there for you. He lived a perfect, holy, sinless life here on earth. He suffered temptation. He suffered scoffers. He suffered beatings. He suffered the cross, one of the worst kinds of death. Jesus knows when you are struggling. He knows what your a struggling with. He knows, because he has been in your place. And He is there for you, because He cares about you.

Jesus’ work of redemption on the cross – his suffering, his agony, his pain – was all done for us. He was separated from the Father on that tree on that day because of his amazing love. He took the beatings, the scourges, the pain on himself so that we might be free from the bondage of sin. He became like us, so that we might be free from slavery to sin. The wall between us and God was broken – just as the curtain was ripped in two. We now have direct access to His Throne of Grace.

You need to entrust your life to Him. Give it over to the one who created it. Ask Him to lead and guide your life. When you deny the will of the sin in your life and start running the race towards the High calling of Jesus Christ, it’s radical. It’s life-changing. It will turn your world upside down.

Romans 8:29 says, “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;” God chose us before the world began. He saved you from your sinful lusts and desires of the world. Our ultimate purpose and goal in life is to glorify Jesus and give Him praise.

Why did God predestine us? To be conformed to the image of His Son.We need to strive every day to be like Jesus. The best way to do that is to be in His Word, the Bible, everyday. We need to study it. We need to know it. We also need to pray. Praying is talking with God. Share your struggles, share your needs. He’s there for you. He’s omniscient. He knows everything. He is all this, because He is God. The creator of the universe. The very maker of you and me. It’s His creation. He’s the creator.

We all have our weak moments and times of self distrust. We will never, ever lead perfect lives. We will never not be tempted. The enemy will try his hardest to pull you away from the one who created you. But don’t give in. These struggles, these trials, these hardships – they’re all God’s way of showing us His power through our lives. Trust Him with your life, and He will work all things for your good and His glory.

Who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:5-9

The come-away message is quite simple. Through all the misery, the struggle, the sorrow…there’s hope. There’s light at the end of the darkness. Have faith — it can move mountains.

Jesus Christ is the only one in whom we find true joy. Have you given your life to Him?

  2. This post is lovely, Zielle! I LOVED reading it. There are always going to be bumps in the road, but when we keep in mind what matters the absolute most (Jesus!) we can overcome anything.

There’s a verse that came to mind when I was reading this too: “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) People need to remember that – it’s incredibly true.

Anywho, I absolutely loved this post. My day is officially made. Keep up the amazing work girl! ❤

  3. Yes amen! I think there are a lot of people in this world that need to hear this! Sometimes it’s hard to find joy when it seems like everything is falling apart – but we have to keep on being held in His arms.
    Great post again Rebecca!
